A disheartening life of unwilling promiscuity over a steady nightclub beat.

Single title: I Get Around
Artist: Dragonette
Label: Mercury
I Get Around is a jigsaw of three pieces: a squelching riff stolen from Belgian techno, a disinterested female vocal in the style of Nico, and guitar from the rock end of indie. Martina sings about a disheartening life of unwilling promiscuity over a steady nightclub beat before the chorus bursts into flames. It covers all bases on the dancefloor, by turns hands-in-the-air and hair-shakingly happy - even when Martina's crisp, enunciated delivery coolly expresses heartache. Far too hip to acknowledge its emotions, it combines rock and rave in an imaginative, if slightly clumsy, manner. [Margaret Kirk]
