Little Barrie - Love You

caught between breathless enthusiasm and insinuating sensuality

Single Review by Gareth K Vile | 10 Feb 2007
Single title: Love You
Artist: Little Barrie
Label: Genuine
Love You' mines rockabilly guitar and the roaming bass of the British blues explosion of the early 1960s. Although they do not take their influences into any new territory, Little Barrie capture their precision, urgency and thrust: the clean production allows the guitar to sparkle. Barrie Codogan's vocals are caught between breathless enthusiasm and insinuating sensuality and Billy Skinner drives the rhythm through forceful changes. A well-crafted imitation rather than an original artefact, 'Love You' musters enough sincerity and passion to pass as authentic garage skiffle. [Gareth K Vile]
