Babyshambles - The Blinding EP

Marmite anyone?

Single Review by Jon Seller | 11 Jan 2007
Single title: The Blinding EP
Artist: Babyshambles
Label: EMI
There's no keeping Pete Doherty away from our eyes or ears. Fresh from another run-in with the law, the love-him-or-loathe-him Marmite man of rock returns with a between-albums release. The Blinding EP sees Doherty and fellow Babyshambles in typically enigmatic form. The title-track and EP opener are close to being superb, with Blur-esque crunching guitars and an infectious rhythm carrying along some fairly coherent vocals to impressive affect. The following 'Love You But You're Green' slips back to the more familiar oft-obscure vocals and sloppy production. 'I Wish' is an easily forgettable two-tone effort, whilst 'Beg, Steal or Borrow' is as close to the Libertines as things get, again driven along nicely by some good rhythm work. Final track 'Sedative' is aptly titled, lacking in anything rousing, despite obvious intentions to the contrary. [Jon Seller]
