Ingen – Lusher EP

Single Review by Bram E. Gieben | 19 Oct 2012
Single title: Lusher EP
Artist: Ingen
Label: Digital Distortions
Release date: 16 Oct

Edinburgh's Ingen has developed an outstanding live reputation with his live sets of dark electro, thundering breakbeat and pitch-black future bass. With releases on Fixate, Nerve and a handful of other electronic imprints, his new EP takes him further into breakbeat territory with three urgent, intricately-constructed dancefloor destroyers.

The title track is a claustrophobic, industrial dubstep rhythm with distorted machine-speak pulsing in the breakdown; Downstairs Mixup begins with a horror movie sample, before bleeding into brutally propulsive tribal rhythms; TRYC9 meanwhile uses a chopped and bent piano rhythm and washes of synth over tumbling breaks to create an icy, detached soundscape. Strong stuff – dark, intelligent and complex.
