The Aliens @ Cabaret Voltaire, 31 May
Rising from the psychological wreckage of the Beta Band, Gordon Anderson has successfully emancipated himself from his past, while retaining just enough of the same references to please those familiar with it. It’s a handy metaphor for the music of the Aliens, a band looking to the future with one foot in the past: creators of a new psychedelia with influences ranging from Kraftwerk to Johnny Cash via the Beach Boys and Fela Kuti. This Ten Tracks gig, coinciding with the release of their new Sunlamp Show EP, is the perfect showcase for the wonderful and peculiar alchemy of one of Fife’s most enigmatic, enduring talents.
