TYCI's Hidden Door playlist

The TYCI collective pick out some of their favourite tunes, ahead of their night at Edinburgh's Hidden Door festival next week

Hidden Door Festival returns to its King's Stables Road residence this weekend, and Glasgow collective TYCI take the reins on 2 June with a line-up featuring Rosie Lowe, Nimmo, HQFU and WOLF as well as TYCI DJs.

Ahead of their first ever live event in Edinburgh, the long-running blog have put together a guest playlist of tracks to expect on the evening, from the artists themselves to a handful of dancefloor fillers from the pop world's past and present.

Rosie Lowe – Run Run Run

"We have been huge fans of Rosie since her EP The Right Thing in 2013, and her debut album Control has been on heavy rotation since its release earlier this year. Rosie brings a real sophistication to songwriting and production, fusing her warm soulful vocals with slick synth compositions. It's a real coup to have Rosie headline <3"

Nimmo – My Only Friend

"This is the brand new single from London five-piece Nimmo. Annie Mac premiered this last week, and we have been playing it loudly in excitement for next week. As soon as we heard it, we knew this was a stellar pop hit. Proper 90s club floor banger vibes here, and we are big fans of the bassline in this. It's no surprise that they are being heralded by the likes of FADER, The Guardian to name a few, plus supporting Years and Years, even before they have released an album. Roll on their debut!"

HQFU – Dust and Dirt

"Sarah J Stanley has been a close ally of TYCI since the very beginning, and it has been so great to see the ascent that HQFU is on. GoldFlakePaint said this track – her debut release – "bristles with nocturnal disquietude, despite the overall warmness, or perhaps deft touch, that the production and submerged, softened vocals convey". We hosted HQFU's EP launch back in April, which was such an incredible night, and we just knew that she would fit in perfectly for our first live event in Edinburgh."

Bossy Love – Sweat It Out

"One of the best live bands we have seen in recent times: vibrant, fun, instant, we could go on. Whenever we DJ, this is the latest staple. We put on their second ever show last June and, to this day, we still talk about how amazing it was. Any Bossy Love show you attend is guaranteed to feature at least three TYCI members in the audience #fanfemmes"

Carly Rae Jepsen – Run Away With Me

"Collectively, if you'd ask us what our favourite song of 2015 was, hands down it is this."

The Go Go's – Vacation

"Since the beginning of 2016, we curate our website content around a monthly theme. Our regular playlist feature LADYSOUNDS invites our followers and contributors to suggest songs around these themes, and this month is HOME / AWAY. It was difficult to choose from all of the excellent submissions, but we are in a The Go Go's mood today."

Sleater-Kinney – Get Up

"Our love for S-K knows no bounds. If you know of TYCI, you may have seen that we teamed up with the band to collect for Glasgow Women's Aid, and host the official afterparty, at their Glasgow show last March (DREAM!). To be able to combine forces with such an inspiring group of women, who we have admired for a long time, only continues to spur on the work that we do."

Salt N Pepa – None of Your Business

"This is more or less an anthem for us, and is played at every DJ set. We featured this in our latest podcast in response to the blatant ageism and body shaming highlighted by our book columnist Laura Waddell here. Salt, Pepa, Spinderella: PREACH."

Beyonce – Run The World (Girls)

"Queen Bey. We have all been in a Lemonade-awe stupor of late, but we thought our most played dancefloor Beyonce tune was an essential addition."

Madonna – Like A Prayer

"It wouldn't be a night out without this."

Rihanna – Kiss It Better

"Rihanna, come and hang with us when you play Hampden, please. Seriously. This song. Unbelievably good, and it prompts the most emotive of air guitar and enthusiastic lip synching from us all."

Cyndi Lauper – Time After Time

"Usually the last song of the night when we DJ. A real classic, and always brings memories of a heartfelt, spontaneous interpretative dance between Stacey TYCI and Kathryn Joseph at one of our parties at The Hug and Pint."

TYCI Edinburgh with Rosie Lowe, Nimmo, HQFU and WOLF is at Kings Stables Road, Edinburgh on 2 Jun from 6pm, as part of Hidden Door Festival; tickets available here.
