Young Fathers confirm new album ‘White Men Are Black Men Too’

Mercury Prize and SAY Award-winning trio Young Fathers have confirmed the title of their second full-length LP – White Men Are Black Men Too.

Recorded in Illinois, Melbourne, Berlin, London and Edinburgh over the course of 2014, the new LP promises to be a significant departure from the avant-garde hip-hop of Deadone of our music writers’ albums of 2014 – and its predecessors Tape One and Tape Two, with more pop and rock influences on display. It will be released on 6 April via the seminal Big Dada label – here's lead track 'Rain or Shine'.

Describing the thought process behind the title, Alloysious Massaquoi of Young Fathers writes: “We came at it from… a positive angle. It's got issues of race and so what? Why should alarm bells start ringing, even though in general conversations race, politics, sex and religion are always the subject matter? Why should it be discussed behind closed doors and never confronted head on?

“I wanna stand for something which I helped make. Folk will complain about absolutely anything… Even if it's it from the purest of intentions you just can't win. We don't make music to please other people or write certain lyrics to do so, either. Why start now?”
