The Crossmakers – Shame: Track premiere

Glasgow's outlaw country rockers The Crossmakers have been quietly building their parish since 2014; now they offer us first listen to debut single Shame.

Formed in 2014 by Ubre Blanca's Joel Stone (here trading his synth for a bass), alongside Blood of the Bull's Hillary Lahoma Van Scoy (drums) and guitarist Tom Bob Rennie (guitar), The Crossmakers are an Anglo-American-Canadian group based in Glasgow, bonded by "a mutual love of surf-punk, outlaw country and vintage Jesus Rock."

No strangers to the stage, the trio have already played alongside the fearsome likes of USA Nails and local indie pop stalwarts Catholic Action. Now they present their debut track Shame to the world, a song the band consider their mission statement, "a cold-comfort anthem for the humiliation age."

Introducing the track, Rennie had this foreboding remark:

“Shame is an ode to our current climate of rampant behavioural chastising and general social resentment – a song for anyone who’s ever been shamed, but mostly for anyone who’s never been shamed. So shame on you! Shame on your hideous mother! Shame on on your brood, your breed, your creed, your kin, your seed, and all of your kind. But most of all, shame on the grotesque bitch-mutt of a god who created you. Now is the time for shame! Now is the shaming time! Buy a ticket, take a seat, and prepare to be ashamed. There’s still time to buy a Coke! Maximum shame on you, and on us all, for ever and ever and ever.”
