The sixth GIT Award, the annual celebration of independent music in Merseyside, was handed out at the weekend, with this year's award going to She Drew the Gun. The Liverpudlian outfit, led by Louisa Roach, take home a prize of £1000 and recording time at Parr Street Studios.

She Drew the Gun took to the stage at Constellations as part of a mammoth 12-hour event marking ten years of Getintothis, the music blog that founded the GIT Award. “This is amazing, I don’t know quite what to say,” Roach said to the crowd, “we’re all delighted and surprised – thanks so much to Getintothis and all the judging panel – it means so much!”

Roach started writing songs under the She Drew the Gun moniker in her bedroom in 2013. In the last 18 months, with the project now a fully-formed band, She Drew the Gun's rapid rise has seen them tour the globe (including a trip to Texas’ SxSW), release the critically acclaimed debut album Memories of Another Future, and win Glastonbury‘s emerging talent contest in 2016, earning a place on the festival’s bill.

Other awards handed out during the celebrations were the Inspiration Award, which this year went to 24 Kitchen Street, recognising the “incredible cultural offerings” the much-loved indie venue brings to the Liverpool region, and the One to Watch Award, which went to Liverpool songwriter Zuzu, who played a stripped back set of rollicking surf pop. This year’s judges included The Quietus' John Doran, Cath Hurley of the BME, Aoife Niblock of VMS Live, and music journalist (and former music editor for The Skinny North) Will Fitzpatrick.

Other acts who performed at the all-dayer included Jamie Broad, Nutribe, Conor Fellows, JR, The Lyric Smith, Rosh and last year's GIT Award-winner Bill Ryder-Jones, who performed a solo set of brand new songs as well as fan favourite Two to Birkenhead.
