The Scottish Alternative Music Awards, aka SAMAs, are back for their annual award ceremony celebrating the wealth of underground musical talent in Scotland. As with previous years, the 2017 SAMAs are to be hosted at Glasgow's Garage. The award ceremony will take place on Thursday 12 October and will feature live performances from a trio of Glasgow bands; disco punk act WHITE, psychedelic rockers Holy Mountain and electro three-piece BooHooHoo.

As well as these live performances on the night, SAMAs founder Richy Muirhead has unveiled that the eighth edition will be hosted by a selection of special guests including Amazing Radio's Jim Gellatly, BBC Radio Scotland's Vic Galloway and Laura Boyd from STV.

Of the 2017 awards, Muirhead says, "The 28 shortlisted acts represent the diversity and high quality of music in Scotland right now. I feel there is something on the list for everyone, from grime to electro, rock and more. The SAMAs are designed to allow the audience to discover new music, and this list does exactly that. Members of the music industry formed the shortlist, now the public can have their say in a vote in October – the team and I are excited for the ceremony in three weeks!”
