Rock 'n' Roll Summer School For Girls to launch in Glasgow

Article by Will Fitzpatrick | 06 Feb 2015

The Art School in Glasgow will host a week long music programme aimed at girls aged between 8-16 this summer.

The inaugural Rock’n’Roll Summer School for Girls Glasgow places a strong focus on helping young women to find their voices through musical workshops, zines, films and rehearsals, closing with a showcase performance for participants.

Taking place between 13-18 Jul, the programme was influenced by the work of the United States' Rock 'n' Roll Camp For Girls, which has been running in Portland, Oregon since 2001. It has since inspired similar events across more than 30 locations worldwide, emphasising creativity, community and positivity.

Despite the name, genre is not limited to rock music, with organisers encouraging those interested in different styles to take part – pop, hip hop and electro are all on the agenda, amongst others.

Further details, including cost and sign-up information, will be revealed in Spring. In the meantime, Rock’n’Roll Summer School for Girls Glasgow is also looking for volunteers to assist with instruction, transport, fundraising and more besides.
