Take a listen to the acclaimed Glasgow musician's Recovery EP1

Following on from last year's fourth studio album Telling the Trees, RM Hubbert returns with an EP of covers, including material from fellow SAY Award winner Kathryn JosephLou Barlow's Sebadoh and the Minutemen. The latter's inclusion in particular – a loving take on Cohesion, from the San Pedro trio's 1984 opus Double Nickels on the Dime – should come as no surprise to Hubby's long term fans, with the band a noted influence on his work.

This new material also follows a 2016 reunion of Glasgow post-rockers El Hombre Trajeado, with whom Hubbert first played in 1995.

The EP was unveiled on Tuesday 28 February via a public Facebook post from Hubbert, who has frequently discussed mental health both on stage and in interview, in which he explains the reasons for a bout of cancelled shows following his last album's release, and asks fans to consider buying the new EP.

"My mental health deteriorated dramatically during last year after Telling the Trees came out," he explains, "reaching breaking point this January when I finally did what I have always found hardest; I asked for help. The mental health crisis team at NHS South Ayrshire looked after me and did fucking brilliant job of it. I owe them my life. I'm getting better again.

"The illness has stopped me working for the best part of a year. My savings are gone and I'm whilst I'm getting better, I'm not emotionally stable enough to return to a normal job. I'm slowly returning to music full time but in the meantime, I need to ask you for a little help."
