Article by News Team | 14 Mar 2014

This year's Record Store Day (19 April), fronted by Public Enemy main man Chuck D., is looking increasingly awesome, with limited-edition releases, reissues and rarities confirmed from up-and-coming bands and music industry veterans alike – we took a look at the first wave of releases announced last month, with highlights from Dinosaur Jr., Camera Obscura, Psychic TV, and many more. Now, we bring you an update on the releases confirmed for 2014, featuring a reissued rarity from David Bowie, a special release from Invada Records, and more.

David Bowie will be releasing a 7" picture disc of his classic track Rock 'n' Roll Suicide for UK fans, while those in the US will get a picture disc of 1984. Geoff Barrow's Invada Records, home to BEAK> and The Fauns, not to mention the Drive score by Cliff Martinez, are planning a special release of the soundtrack to video game Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, composed by Australian duo Power Glove, with game-makers UbiSoft describing the soundtrack as "a nostalgia-drenched journey into the world of VHS-inspired dystopian futures."

Another limited 7" from Dinosaur Jr. will feature their cover of The Cure's Just Like Heaven, backed with The Cure's original version. Django Django will release a cover of The Monkees' Porpoise Song, also on 7". Blues-influenced dream-pop legends Mazzy Star will release two new tracks on clear vinyl, limited to 3000 copies - the title track is called I'm Less Here. Nirvana's Pennyroyal Tea will be reissued – originally withdrawn as a single, this will be its first release on vinyl since the 1990s. Another 7" will feature two new tracks by Paul Weller – A Brand New Toy and Landslide. The Black Lips will release a 7" of their track Funny, limited to 2000 copies.

Dan Croll will be issuing Hello My Baby on gold 10" vinyl. Cut Copy will release a 10" with two tracks – In These Arms of Love and Like Any Other Day. CHVRCHES will reissue their Recover single on a hand-stamped and numbered 12", limited to 2300 copies. Liars' Mess on a Mission will be issued on clear 12" vinyl, strictly limited to 1000 copies. Tame Impala's limited 12" will feature 8 tracks recorded live, and will be limited to 5000 copies. David Lynch will get help from Moby and Bastille for a remix package based on his LP The Big Dream, on clear red vinyl, with just 500 copies available in the UK.

On the LP side of things, The Field's 2007 debut Here We Go Sublime will be reissued as a special double-vinyl package. Singer Banks will reissue her Remixes package, limited to 500, and featuring tracks never commercially released. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis will release their score for West of Memphis on white vinyl, while Clint Mansell's score for In the Wall also gets a reissue. Childish Gambino's Because the Internet will be released on double vinyl, along with a 72-page screenplay. School of Seven Bells will be putting out a 12" vinyl with 5 unreleased tracks, limited to just 300 copies, with proceeds going to charity. And finally, Public Enemy's classic It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back will be re-released as an 'explicit version' – which could well mean a bonanza of extra swearing. We'll keep you posted as more releases are announced!
