Music blog and magazine Pitchfork has been purchased by US publishing giant Conde Nast

Conde Nast – the publishing house behind iconic fashion magazines Vogue and Vanity Fair – has taken over the music website with immediate effect. Announcing the deal, Pitchfork said the deal will allow them "greater opportunities to grow and flourish."

Founded in Minnesota in 1995, Pitchfork has built a reputation as one of the key independent voices in the music world; as well as its website and quarterly magazine, Pitchfork also curates annual music festivals in Chicago and Paris, and an annual stage at Barcelona's Primavera Sound festival.

Conde Nast said the deal will give the publisher the chance to add “a very passionate audience of millennial males into our roster” – a choice of words which has sparked mockery on Twitter.

Alongside Vanity Fair and Vogue, new publisher Conde Nast also own The New Yorker, GQ, and Wired magazines.
