Radiohead team up with Paul Thomas Anderson once again for their third video from A Moon Shaped Pool

Last night Radiohead shared the video for Present Tense, taken from their latest album A Moon Shaped Pool, and once again it’s Paul Thomas Anderson, director of Boogie Nights, Magnolia and The Master, behind the camera.

Titled Present Tense: Jonny, Thom & a CR78, the video was shot during a live performance in Tarzana, California last month; as the video’s subtitle suggests, it features Jonny Greenwood and Thom Yorke playing along with a CR-78 drum machine.

It’s a far simpler setup than Anderson’s video for Daydreaming – released online back in May, that elaborate, dreamlike video followed Yorke as he passes through various doors that seem to act like portals, taking him to different buildings and places around the world.

Anderson has a long association with Greenwood; the guitarist has worked on the score of the director’s last three films (Inherent Vice, The Master and There Will Be Blood). Anderson’s next project, still untitled, is reported to be set in the 1950s fashion world, and will reunite him with There Will Be Blood star Daniel Day-Lewis. Chances are Greenwood will be on score duty also.

A Moon Shaped Pool, Radiohead's first studio album in five years, was shortlisted for this year's Mercury Prize but lost out to grime supremo Skepta at the ceremony last night. Read our report on the Mercurys here.
