On Tour: Prince, Jane's Addiction, ATP Iceland add Mogwai, Slowdive and more

Funk, R 'n' B and pop legend Prince this week announced his first Scottish show in nearly two decades – the singer, backed by his new band 3RDEYEGIRL, will play Glasgow's The Hydro on 22 May. Tickets go on sale at midday on Friday 2 May. Prince and his band will also be performing at Birmingham's The NEC (15 May), Manchester's Phones 4u Arena (16 May), and Leeds' First Direct Arena (23 May).

Earlier in the year, Prince performed a series of secret gigs in London and Manchester with his new band. Since returning in 2013 with the singles Screwdriver and Breakfast Can Wait, Prince has also announced that a new album is in the works, along with an expanded, 30th anniversary edition of his classic album Purple Rain, which will see him mend some fences with his former record company, Warner Bros., which he left acrimoniously in 1996.

Also announcing a select few shows in the UK after a prolonged absence are Perry Farrell's seminal alt.rock group Jane's Addiction. The band are reuniting (without founding bassist Eric Avery) to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their classic 1988 debut album Nothing's Shocking, with plans to play the album in full at two exclusive dates. They play London's O2 Academy in Brixton on 20 August, and Manchester's O2 Apollo on 21 August. Tickets for both gigs go on sale on Friday 2 May at 9am.

The band's Dave Navarro recently spoke to the NME about their forthcoming reunion, saying: "I've not really listened to Nothing's Shocking since it came out but I have done recently. It was very strange and struck me how fearless we were, even though the playing's not as good. It's weird for me to have to re-learn my own band's music. A lack of education on your instrument can lead to more visceral music. But these shows are going to be great, and I can't wait."

And finally, ATP Iceland (10-12 Jul) have added a few more high-profile names to their bill this week - joining the already-announced likes of Interpol, Portishead and Fuck Buttons are Scottish post-rock behemoths Mogwai, re-formed shoegaze pioneers Slowdive, Michael Gira's magisterial experimental collective Swans, Mute-signed techno/punk fusionists Liars, legendary 80s art rock band Loop, and Steve Albini's seminal post-hardcore outfit Shellac. Also added to the bill are Low, Devendra Banhart (solo), I Break Horses, Pharmakon, Ben Frost, HAM, Sin Fang, Pascal Pinon and Fufanu. Details and tickets can be found on the ATP site.
