Stuart Braithwaite, guitarist with Glasgow post-rockers Mogwai, has provided his unique sound to the work of a North Lanarkshire poet.

Catherine Baird’s poem ‘Never Come Home’ won a competition launched by Scottish Book Trust Reader in Residence Jane Graham, and judged by poets Liz Lochhead and Ian McMillan alongside Manic Street Preachers bassist Nicky Wire.

Writers were asked to provide a poem based on the tale of the drowned village of Bothwellhaugh, which was flooded to make way for the Strathclyde Loch.

Braithwaite’s contribution to the finished work is made up of swirling, distorted tones, providing the backdrop to a reading by Trainspotting and Filth star Shirley Henderson – listen to the finished piece in the player below.

Earlier this month, Mogwai announced Music Industry 3. Fitness Industry 1, a new EP of remixes of tracks from Rave Tapes, along with previously-unheard material.
