Mogwai's ninth studio album Every Country's Sun drops this September; listen to new track Coolverine below

Recorded with Come On Die Young and Rock Action producer Dave Fridmann in upstate New York in 2016 and early 2017, Every Country's Sun is the band's studio follow-up to 2014's critically-acclaimed Rave Tapes – in the intervening time the band have produced the soundtracks to climate change documentary Before the Flood and Mark Cousins' nuclear weapons film AtomicIt's also the first studio album since the departure of guitarist John Cummings, who left the group in 2015.

The record is described as "music as a keep-out chrysalis, protective audio armour through exalting organs and portentous, dissonant guitar fuzz warping at the edges, bending the world inside-out into a reality in which you'd much rather live." Talking to BBC 6 Music's Mary Anne Hobbs, Stuart Braithwaite described the making of the album as "cocooning the band away" from the political climate during the US election season.
