Canadian indie darlings Tegan and Sara have enlisted the help of Ghostly International founder, producer and songwriter Matthew Dear to help them with their cover of Pale Shelter, by seminal 80s synth-pop band Tears For Fears. Stereogum report that Sara Quin considers Tears For Fears a seminal influence on the duo.

"We have been heavily influenced by Tears For Fears’ impressive body of work and it was an honor to create a new version of one of our favorite songs," she told Stereogum yesterday. Matthew Dear immediately came to mind as an exciting collaborator and we were delighted when he said yes! Matthew had suggested we try a vocal riff off the top of the song, and I think it adds a nice signature and melody to the final track."

Dear meanwhile is quoted as saying: "Many of today’s artists have been greatly influenced by Tears For Fears, and it was an honor to try and do the song justice." Meanwhile, Tears For Fears have been far from idle in the cover version stakes as well – visit their Soundcloud page to check out cover versions of Arcade Fire, Animal Collective and Hot Chip.
