The Trainspotting author has been chosen to pen Ibiza87, which takes as its inspiration the careers of DJs Nicky Holloway, Paul Oakenfold and Danny Rampling

This does sound tasty. Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh has reportedly been tapped, according to FACT, to pen a TV show about the dawn of the UK rave scene.

Titled Ibiza87, the story will be based on the trip taken by DJs Nicky Holloway, Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling and Johnny Walker to the Balearic island, which led to acid music becoming the dominant sound in UK clubbing. Holloway, Oakenfold and Rampling will be involved with the music side of the show, curating the soundtrack.

The press release, suggests somewhat presumptively, that the show will be “the missing link between 24 Hour Party People and Straight Outta Compton.”

In a statement to FACT, Oakenfold said, “I’m very excited about this project. It ties in with the 30-year anniversary of our trip to Ibiza and what followed thereafter; the birth of the dance music club and festival scene as we know it today. It’s great to celebrate with this project as well as my world tour this year which is about just that, three generations of dance music.”

A release date for the series is still forthcoming.
