Created by author Dave Eggers, the project will release a new song daily in the lead-up to the US presidential election on 8 November. Veteran indie rockers Death Cab For Cutie kicked off the project on Monday 10 October with their track Million Dollar Loan, followed thus far by Aimee Mann's Can't You Tell, Bhi Bhiman's With Love From Russia and Jim James' Same Old Lie.

Featuring lyrical references to "pussy-grabbing fingers" and nuclear bombs, Demagogue is clear in its opposition to Trump's candidacy. It's in keeping with the theme of 30 Days, 30 Songs, which states: "As artists, we are united in our desire to speak out against the ignorant, divisive, and hateful campaign of Donald Trump... It’s not enough to sit on the sidelines on this one." Listen to the track via Spotify below:

Proceeds from the campaign will go to the Center for Popular Democracy, a left-leaning advocacy group, and their efforts toward Universal Voter Registration for all Americans. Read more about the 30 Days, 30 Songs project here.

Demagogue is the first new material from Franz Ferdinand since last year's Sparks collaboration FFS, and Nick McCarthy's subsequent departure from the band in July of this year. Franz Ferdinand's most recent album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, was released in 2013.
