The first batch of events to take place during Everything Everything’s Chaos to Order residency at Manchester’s newly-refurbished Central Library have been announced.

The Manchester art-rockers, who earned a Mercury Prize nomination in 2011 for their debut LP Man Alive, have programmed a series of music, theatre and spoken word performances to take place in the iconic library next month.

The band will compose new work within the library throughout the week-long residency, playing some of the fresh material at a free gig on Sat 15 Nov.

Elsewhere on the programme, The Reading Room sees Manchester theatre company Quarantine take over the library’s Reading Room with a mass performance, Celluloid History Songs combines live music from singer-songwriter Josephine Oniyama with footage from North West Film Archive, and Oldham songwriter Kiran Leonard will perform specially-commissioned new work in a free gig on Fri 14 Nov.

Minute-long performances by northwest theatre company Dumblove Encounters take place throughout the week, and a showcase of Manchester fiction writers is set for Wed 12 Nov.

New Order’s Bernard Sumner and Elbow frontman Guy Garvey are also set to appear at Chaos to Order, as guests for a special live edition of BBC Radio 6 Music’s Radcliffe and Maconie show from Central Library, also on Fri 14 Nov.

Announcing the programme, Everything Everything say: "As a band we see Manchester Central Library as the brain of the city; the place where a vast collection of often contradictory interpretations reside and are presented impartially.

"When we discussed these thoughts with other artists whom we admire, the ideas snowballed and the result is a vibrant ‘chaotic’ week of extraordinary occurrences and performances that will bring the audience into the action."

Chaos to Order takes place at Manchester Central Library from 10-15 Nov. Events are free, register for tickets at LibraryLive.co.uk
