Africa Oyé, Liverpool’s annual celebration of African and Caribbean music and culture, returns to its home on the vibrant green of Sefton Park on 18-19 June, and today the festival has revealed the DJs who’ll be keeping the party going over the weekend. For the third year in a row, the main stage of the ambitious free festival will be manned by DJ Edu and Esa Williams.

DJ Edu, who’s played a major role in fuelling the love of African music in Europe and worldwide, will be maintaining Africa Oyé’s lively atmosphere on the main stage on Saturday 18 June. Esa Williams, an eclectic producer whose career in contemporary club music has skirted electronica, techno and traditional rhythms, takes over on Sunday 19 June. When we spoke to Williams last year before the 2015 edition of Africa Oyé he said, “I'm overwhelmed with opportunities in the African community and beyond and I’m still finding out so much and meeting so many interesting people. It’s a learning experience that I don’t want to give up.”

Paul Duhaney, artistid director of Africa Oyé, tells us that the feedback for both DJs was so good last year that he “just couldn't turn down the chance to bring them back for a third time. Edu's selection of afrobeats is always a hit, especially with our younger audience and Esa's vast knowledge of music from across the globe means we'll get some really varied and interesting tunes throughout the weekend to accompany the stellar live acts.”
