Acting Strange – Start It Over: Track Premiere

Listen to Start It Over, the first track from the new album by Glasgow band Acting Strange

Feature by Music Team | 03 Feb 2017

Ali and Billy Strange are cousins from Glasgow’s East End. Together they are Acting Strange; making raw lo-fi guitar music but never deviating too far from their pop sensiilities. Despite their name there is little acting or pretence emanating from the duo.

The relationship between the two blossomed when they would spend their summers together working with their uncle Gabby in his taxidermy workshop in Oban. During breaks, he would teach them how to play guitar along with a variety of other instruments (often resulting in missed orders). These summers contributed heavily to the band’s then breezy melodic sound.

Sadly, their uncle passed away in January 2015. Billy and Ali – equipped with their Tascam 8-track – travelled back to his old workshop, two weeks before it was pulled down and recorded their debut EP there.

Now with their debut album TALK TALK TALK, we find the band following on from their critically acclaimed Night on the Tiles EP with a more rambunctious and focused sound, partially inspired by sharing stages with fellow subvert Ezra Furman.

The album is set for release on 31 March but we've been fortunate enough to get an exclusive stream of Start It Over, the first single to be taken from the album. Of the track, Ali Strange tells us: "Start it Over is a break up song, in an abstract way. It started out pretty laid back, but we scuffed it up into something we would enjoy playing live after a Pixies binge."

Start it Over is out on 28 Feb; Acting Strange's debut album TALK TALK TALK is due for release on 31 Mar
