The Wedding Present – It's a Gas (Marc Riley Session): Premiere

Listen to It's a Gas by The Wedding Present taken from their upcoming Marc Riley Sessions Volume 2 album

This year, The Wedding Present celebrate 30 years since the release of their debut album George Best. Since its release, the band have released a further eight studio albums, gaining 17 UK Top 40 singles along the way. A firm favourite of John Peel, they were regular Peel sessions guests, so much so in fact that in 2007 they released The Complete Peel Sessions 1986 - 2004, a six-disc compilation comprising of 95 songs.

It would seem that current BBC Radio 6 Music DJ Marc Riley is continuing Peel’s legacy with The Wedding Present, as last December they released an 11-track Marc Riley Sessions Volume 1 compilation, with a second due for release on 6 Oct in conjunction with Leeds-based independent label Hatch Records.

Listen to It’s a Gas from Marc Riley Sessions Volume 2 in the player below. Of the release, David Gedge tells us: “I’ve always been proud of the relationship that The Wedding Present has had with the BBC over the years, not least because we’ve had the opportunity to record multiple BBC sessions as a result. I was particularly pleased that we were able to put out the sessions we did for John Peel and I’m delighted that the sessions we’ve recorded for Marc Riley are also being released in a series. These types of albums really capture the energy of The Wedding Present recorded live.

“This is the second in a series of at least three records (with the third earmarked for release next year) but we’re also planning a couple of extra vinyl editions of BBC session tracks that didn’t fit this series…”
