Having previously recorded an EP (Before the Sunset Ends) with punk legend and hellraiser Shane MacGowan, Candice Gordon is set to release her debut full length album Garden of Beasts on 8 Sep via Proper Octopus Records.

Produced by labelmate AS Fanning and mixed by Ingo Krauss (Swans / Iggy and the Stooges), the album was recorded in a country house in Ireland and at the legendary Funkhaus in Berlin. Garden of Beasts is inspired by Gordon’s move from Dublin to the German capital, a city steeped in a very dark and heavy history. Sonically, Garden of Beasts perfectly examines this darkness, and with such a rich vocal – somewhere in the realms of PJ Harvey and Nick Cave – we can’t help but feel excited about Candice Gordon.

The Skinny are delighted to be premiering I Belong to the Night, taken from Garden of Beasts, which you can listen to in the player below. Of the track Gordon tells us, “I Belong to the Night is about losing yourself, giving yourself up to the night, complete abandon and fecklessness. Inspired by many, many, many nights out where I did just that.

“In the music, I wanted to evoke a sort of hammer horror impression with a kind of tension and electricity, like the feeling in the air right before a storm hits. It's really sexual too, mainly through the bass and vocal-line interplay.”
