Songwriter Ross Wilson, better known by his Blue Rose Code moniker, is back with new album The Water of Leith. Blending elements of jazz, folk, soul and pop, the record straddles genres and takes in themes of love, loss, travel and home. The Water of Leith sees Wilson collaborate with a host of musicians including vocalists Julie Fowlis and Kathleen MacInnes, award-winning piper Ross Ainslie, violinist Seonaid Aitken and Scottish Jazz Awards instrumentalist of the year Konrad Wiszniewski.

Wiszniewski's saxophone features heavily on album track Bluebell, and we have an exclusive look at a live performance of the song recorded at Glasgow's GloWorm studio; watch the video in the player above. Of the story behind Bluebell, Wilson says: “Bluebell is a song of regret. It's a personal record that I don't really feel that comfortable explaining further. It's a song about mistakes made years ago that still burn.

“I'm so happy with the way the song was recorded. I wanted to borrow some of the muted late night magic from The Blue Nile's first couple of records and I think the bass and drums groove and Konrad Wisniewski's horn are really quite special.”

The Water of Leith is out on 27 Oct via Navigator Records, and available for pre-order now. Blue Rose Code play The Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh, 3 Nov; Bush Hall, London, 14 Nov; Harbour Arts, Irvine, 24 & 25 Nov.
