Beautifully Astray is the debut album from songwriter Abi Wade. She wrote most of the album on cello in a variety of locations in her hometown of Brighton, before augmenting the sound with field recordings from a wide range of locations and adding a host of instruments including brass, wind and choral ensembles. The album – whose release is supported by the PRS for Music Foundation’s Women Make Music award – is accompanied by pattern visuals by design firm Eley Kishimoto.

A Bit Like Love is the album's opening track, combining melancholy vocals with expansive instumentation and a menacing, military-style beat. The accompanying music video is an intimate, lo-fi affair created using spontaneous shots taken of Wade's closest relationships, childhood friends and family members. Watch the video for A Bit Like Love in the player above, or on YouTube here.

Introducing the video for A Bit Like Love, Wade tells us: "I have loved Degas' studies of the body since I was a child, specifically his line drawings and sculptures that seemed to me to move.

"This was a key influence for the video, I definitely didn't want it to be an all-singing all-dancing music video but more a sequence of moving portraiture. I filmed using an iPhone which meant I could get intimate moments that I otherwise could not have achieved. Each shot is intentionally just a bit of the body and never quite reveals the face/body fully, which I think reflects the tone of the song; the space between knowing and not knowing a loved one."

Beautifully Astray is out on 6 Apr. Abi Wade plays St Pancras Old Church, London, 4 Apr; Nightingale Theatre, Brighton, 5 Apr; Ramsgate Music Hall, 8 Apr; tickets here. Wade also plays Alternative Great Escape, Brighton, 17-19 May.
