Eagles Of Death Metal @ The Garage

4/5 stars
a welcome antidote to our age of earnest 'post-rock'

EODM swagger on-stage to gleeful applause and only one audible demand for Josh Homme. The 'Devil' however doesn't disappoint, replete with falsetto and uber-tash, looking like the member of Village People who always secretly wanted to rock. The crowd lap up the new single and camp favourite I Only Want You but the defining moment is Cherry Cola; showcasing their Kinks-esque irony mixed with heavy rock to a satisfyingly ridiculous conclusion. This brand of beer and boogie-woogie nonsense seems a welcome antidote to our age of earnest 'post-rock'; you can't even try to look cool in the face of a man whos medallion is getting caught up in his chest hair. A cover of Brown Sugar and their version of Stealer's Wheel are serviceable enough but leave the feeling that whilst these guys can put on a great show, they still prop themselves up with others' classics, perhaps because so far, they haven't written too many of their own.
