a suitable match to the grandeur of the band's sophistication.

Zero 7 keep their audience in The Waiting Line for the bar, with a tardy two hour set-up time for their Edinburgh gig. Still, it's worth the wait as the aptly constructed seven-piece take to the stage for something of a hotly-anticipated set.

Guest vocalist, Sia Furler, establishes an immediately comfortable and natural stage presence – instantly likeable, with jaunty dancing and select use of a kazoo. Tonight, she builds to a breathtaking rendition of Distractions which renders an awestricken audience silent.

Swedish-born Argentine singer-songwriter and classical guitarist José Gonzàlez also provides guest vocals by collaborating on The Garden, making a welcome addition to their collective. José's mellow sounds and samples from his 2003 LP 'Veneer' are also given the Zero 7 treatment, to great effect.

This is a stylish set with predictably professional sound engineering from Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker. The Usher Hall's antiquated ambience and renowned acoustics wears their production and lighting rigs well, a suitable match to the grandeur of the band's sophistication. [Yasmin Ali]
