We Were Promised Jetpacks @ The Liquid Room, 6 October

Live Review by Darren Carle | 10 Oct 2011

It’s been over a year since the Jetpacks' previous home-turf Liquid Room gig, and as such there awaits an enthusiastic crowd tonight, near-buckling the venue's modest capacity. However, any discomfort is alleviated by a strong opening from the young quartet. Circles and Squares from new album In The Pit of the Stomach merges with anthemic favourite Quiet Little Voices and sets the blueprint for the evening.

With that second album still smelling of shrink wrap though, it’s a gig of two sorts. The mosh-pit ignites to the old favourites, with arm flailing, beer spraying abundance, yet things simmer down noticeably for the newbies. But it’s those very tunes, such as a raucous Human Error or mid-set, ethereal breather Sore Thumb that gives the night depth and variety – boiling down to a great performance from a band on a slightly altered trajectory. No doubt we'll all be up to speed next time. [Darren Carle]
