The Australian Pink Floyd Show @ The Alhambra, Dunfermline, 11 Apr

Having received the ultimate endorsement when they were asked to play David Gilmour’s 50th birthday celebration, the Australian Pink Floyd Show has come to be regarded as the (very) next best thing in lieu of the real McCoy. Tonight, Dunfermline’s recently restored Alhambra – a rather special addition to Fife's limited number of mid-sized venues - scores a double coup in tendering the services of this arena act whilst also securing their premiere performance of the Floyd's seminal 1979 rock opera The Wall in its entirety.

True to the narrative of Roger Waters’ story of isolation and ultimate mental breakdown, the Aussie Floyd deliver a high concept theatrical homage down to the last detail. Even perceived imperfections from the original - such as Roger Waters' nasal verse delivery on the typically evocative Comfortably Numb - are reproduced with duty and care.

The 80-minute prog odyssey is bolstered by an encore of Floyd songs that refuse to fade; projections of the late Rick Wright are emblazoned across the back of the hall as The Great Gig in the Sky - soulful caterwauls and all - proves a touching eulogy, a fitting counterpart to the perennial Syd Barrett tribute that is Shine on You Crazy Diamond.

As a testament to a formidable venue and two unique bands in their own right, it's an unforgettable night for both nostalgists and newcomers to the great fold of Floyd followers.

The Australian Pink Floyd Show plays SECC, Glasgow on 1 May and AECC, Aberdeen on 2 May.
