Teenage Fanclub @ Fruitmarket Hall

For 90 minutes Teenage Fanclub are the only thing that matter.

Seeing Teenage Fanclub again is a reminder that we don't see each other enough. It's like getting a hug off an old friend you wish you hung out with more. There's the warm familiarity that makes your heart swell, mixed in with a melancholy for the good times that happen less and less as you grow older. Starsign sounds as perfect as it did 15 years ago, while Everything Flows induces the same easy smiles as way back when. Even the overlooked tracks from the latter end of their repertoire sound good, and all the memories come flooding back. Seeing tonight's crowd so into this band, it's not hard to mourn any accidental loss from the radar. All these sentimental words might very well be forgotten when the next young flash in the pan shimmies into sight, but for 90 minutes Teenage Fanclub are the only thing that matter. [Matt Gollock]
