Cold Dead Hands round up the hottest hardcore bands for their first show of the New Year

It's Leeds locals Feint's job to warm up the crowd tonight, and though their vocals are tight and melodies engaging, the whole seems less than the sum of its parts. Within a few songs, each singer begins to sound the same, voices blur and vocals lose their emphasis. Whether it's playing to a foreign crowd or opening for a famous band, the members seem nervous, almost shy.

Atomgeviter, however, are anything but shy. Mosh-friendly riffs are backed by heavy vocals and the members routinely delve in to the crowd. Their fans turn out in droves, singing along and shouting in all the right places. However, the band is more spectacle than spectacular, and their music is ultimately forgettable.

Headliners Oi Polloi do what Oi bands do best: rustle up the crowd for hard drinking, hard partying and hard politics. With years of experience under their belt, they play a tight set of honed classics. However, changing the words of a song from 'Tony Blair' to 'Gordon Brown' is hardly creative genius. Like Atomgeviter, the show itself proves more entertaining than the music. [Hamza K]
