Mitchell Museum @ Nice 'n' Sleazy, 9 Jun

Article by Darren Carle | 10 Jun 2010

Tonight’s turnout at Sleazies for Glaswegian hopefuls Mitchell Museum is initially disappointing, particularly given the quality and potential appeal of their forthcoming debut album. However, as the four young lads take to the stage, the crowd draws into a close-knit cluster, masking the gaps and bolstering an expectant feeling. Sadly, this never really gets a chance to present itself, not least because the set is bewilderingly short, barely breaking the half-hour mark.

Album highlights such as the Mercury Rev-indebted No.3 or the giddy, kaleidoscopic stomp of Copy + Paste are notably absent whilst sound issues ebb and flow, with only singer Cammy’s vocals coming out unscathed. Surprisingly, it’s a brand new, non-album track that is perhaps the evening’s highlight, showing how effortlessly Mitchell Musuem can sear a great pop tune onto your brain after just one listen. Sadly, the rest of the evening, combined with its brevity, ends up as largely forgettable. [Darren Carle]

Debut album The Peter's Port Memorial Service is released on 12th july via Electra French Records.
