Welsh emo stalwarts return with phoned-in crowd pleaser

Article by Ryan Drever | 27 Oct 2008

In a time when reunions - everything from the grandiose to the obscure - so resolutely grab public attention, it must be hard for bands of more recent success to make a return with another album. Well, in the case of Funeral For A Friend, any difficulty is phantom tonight, with the crowd lodged firmly in the palm of their hand from the get go. Although this tour is in support of third album Memory And Humanity, it's the oldies that throw the kids into an all out arm-flailing riot, with She Drove Me To Daytime Television, Juneau and Escape Artists Never Die, all witness to a manic mesh of bodies. It's just a shame then that the band seem all too aware of the crowd's allegiance and proceed to act like an all too static, live action jukebox. Sure it's tight, and the sea of fringes can't get enough, but still, there's no need to be so lazy!
