Oozing with confidence, energy and ultimate sass, Dream Wife are a delight to watch, fast becoming one of the most exciting new bands around

Live Review by Nadia Younes | 16 Oct 2017

Beginning life as a performance art project, Dream Wife – made up of vocalist Rakel Mjöll, guitarist Alice Go and bassist Bella Podpadec – perfected their live show by touring around the world before even releasing a proper body of work.

Now, with two EPs under their belt and a debut album on the way next year, they are fast becoming one of the most exciting new bands around and their exhilarating live show has a lot to do with this. Oozing with confidence, energy and ultimate sass, the band are a delight to watch. There is an effortlessness to their live performance that can only come from a band with undoubtable chemistry and Dream Wife have that in excess.

Kicking off the show with Hey Heartbreaker, taken from their debut release EP01, the band show off what they do best: taking a traditional punk ethos, combining it with pop sensibilities and dressing it up with glossy, glam melodies that hit hard. The trio play through the few tracks they have released, from the angst-fuelled Lolita to the empowering feminist anthem Somebody to the shimmering pop gem Fire, and even throw in a few new songs along the way.

Barely even seeming to break a sweat, Dream Wife make this look easy and it’s as slick a performance as you can get. Closing with a jolting rendition of F.U.U., chants of “Dream Wife for life” sound like a statement of intent from a band who are very much ready to conquer.
