Indie heroes fail to disappoint at tiny Glasgow show

Article by Ryan Drever | 22 Oct 2008

The last time Bloc Party played Glasgow they hit the cavernous SECC, so seeing the band and the sold-out crowd crammed into the refurbished Barfly is quite some rarity. The band kicks off this date on the MTV Two's Gonzo tour with a much appreciated Halo, but it's not until the double barrel assault of Hunting For Witches and Positive Tension that the crowd really blows up. This trend of intently listening to the new and going mental to the old continues, with Kele Okereke grinning like a cheshire cat throughout and the band relishing the chance to go back to their club show roots. An energetic encore sees Kele sing most of Mercury in the crowd's hands and culminates in a riotous Helicopter before the night collapses in a sweaty mess. As the band take a well-deserved bow, I’ll be damned if there's a soul here that left disappointed. [Ryan Drever]
