Bdy_Prts @ Bloc+, 24 November

Remnants of dry ice circulate behind The Skinny's eyeballs as we blink through the ethereal, ruby light of Bloc+.

Live Review by Mina Green | 27 Nov 2015

Jill and Jenny of Bdy_Prts are adjusting their mics and wiggling into their guitar straps; humble and charming as they confess their delight at playing for TYCI and Detour, in celebration of Detour’s 6th birthday.

In such an intimate venue, the audience edge forward, a bumbling mass of fans poised and expectant for Bdy_Prts to ignite their Bohemian, electro prowess on the city. As a Glasgow based band, they encompass the talent, grace and power of a place with a rich musical and cultural appeal, and are representative of a number of the city’s eclectic and successful female artists.

As their velvet vocal harmonies collide in IDLU, the wall of the oozing bass, twanging guitar and deliciously haunting lyrics ‘you’ve been changing / you have shed your skin’ reverberate through the modest dance floor of Bloc+ and straight into our eager souls. With a Bollywood-meets-Stevie Nicks dance routine; the pair of strident and precocious musicians are as enchanting as they are illuminating, peeling loose their sophisticated pop one layer at a time and gradually reeling in our hungry minds.

The occasional cheeky glance and intertwining of fingers accompanied by their tight and impeccable performance make for an inspiring evening of fragmented electro prowess. These ladies prove that their whistling, wistful voices are just what we need to awaken our love for quirky power pop.
