Admiral Fallow @ The Arches, 2 Mar

Article by Ryan Drever | 08 Mar 2011

After years of playing the field and currently readying themselves for the re-release of their accomplished debut, Boots Met My Face, Glasgow collective, Admiral Fallow, take to the Arches to play to their largest home crowd to date. However, the sheer number of bodies crammed into the hanger-esque hall this evening ends up being more of a hindrance to this triumphant homecoming, emanating a near-constant buzz of restless chatter.

Beginning in slow-burning fashion with an entrancing version of Dead Leg, the din of the audience is momentarily silenced by a thunderous orchestral climax which sets a bar for the rest of the set that is, sadly, rarely equalled as the night progresses. But, the airing of a handful of new songs, in-keeping with the band's multi-layered folk sound alongside strong fan favourites like Subbuteo, Dead Against Smoking and Squealing Pigs – the latter inducing a deafening sing-along – reminds us of their unquestionable promise.
