Women @ Captain's Rest, 14 Feb

Women were last in Captain's Rest playing second fiddle to producer/mentor/occasional member Chad VanGaalen, whose melodic warmth outshone Women’s intermittent incoherence. This time round, with their debut album on UK shelves, all eyes are on the lo-fi shamble-pop quartet to justify the buzz, vindicate the faith of US advocates Pitchfork et al, and hopefully prove that there’s more to them than “pretentious sub-Liars nonsense” (as our reviewer concluded). Moreover, a ticket for this may be the only hope some of us have of spending Valentine's with strange and interesting Women - an opportunity not to be passed up lightly. [Chris Buckle]
