Whispertown 2000 @ Captain's Rest, 16 Sep

Article by Fiona Reid | 26 Aug 2009

Morgan Nagler fronts this wonderfully mixed up Californian four-piece who find comfort in wailing woefully and plucking geetars. Taking influence from Bob Dylan and Tom Waits, the group have been focusing their efforts on capturing timeless, grainy recordings in between touring with alternative folk singer Maria Taylor. Expect a time capsule of sepia tinted songs, blended with the howling of beautifully off-key vocals and sleepy strumming on guitars. The Whispertown 2000 are so laid-back you could be forgiven for thinking you'd stumbled across a garage band practice, but then that's half the charm.

8pm, £7.

Also playing Sneaky Pete's on 17 Sep.
