As Auld Reekie's live music scene continues to flourish, This Is Music deservedly celebrate their hard work and continued promotion of the best bands around with their third birthday party. Since its inception in 2006, Jim Macleod and HP Neilson, along with recent full time recruit Tallah Brash, have consistently delivered their monthly remit of quality local acts, cherry picked touring bands and a revolving door of guest DJs. They invite us to join them in their celebrations with gigs in two of the busiest venues in Edinburgh. However, this will be no self-congratulatory affair, rather a musical gift for the audience. With performances at the Bowery by Broken Records, Mike Bones and Rob St. John (7pm, £10), and at Sneaky Petes by Copy Haho, Tie for Jack and Homework (8pm, £4), it will be a treat for gig goers caught between the two, with the focus never erring from supplying quality line ups. Arguably, the pick of the two would be the star studded night at the Bowery, but with This Is Music's track record of booking fresh, bright young things before most, one would be at a loss to anticipate which night is best worth the entry fee. Choose wisely.
