The Coast @ Sneaky Pete’s, 10 Feb

Article by Georgina Merry | 28 Jan 2009

On first encounter The Coast appear to be yet another one of those generic pop-rock bands that are all too easily categorised as 'indie'. However, they intertwine contrasting melodies with off-notes and intricate overlays impressively. This sets them apart from the usual indie crowd. In many respects they are similar to the Goo Goo Dolls as vocalist Ben Spurr has the same gravelled drawl as Johnny Rzeznik. Musically they have a bittersweet, Celtic influence with dramatic piano, punching synth lines and a touch of distortion giving them a more edgy sound. The Coast bring promise of a tight performance.
