Knockengorroch World Ceilidh @ Carsphairn Hills, Kircudbrightshire, 24-27 May

2018’s Knockengorroch World Ceilidh festival in the south-west of Scotland takes place by a beautiful river in the Carsphairn hills. Cut Chemist, Transglobal Underground and African supergroup Les Amazones d’Afrique are among the international, traditional and dance music acts performing this year with Kobi Onyame, INYAL, MALKA, Awry and SCOPE heading up the Scottish talent. Sonars x Wuh Oh x TEEK @ Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh, 25 May

Two-piece electro-psych outfit Sonars are Frederick Paysden and Serena Oldrati from Brighton and Bergamo, Italy. The duo – who will be fresh from playing Austin’s massive SXSW showcase festival and Canadian Music Week, by the time this show comes around – draw inspiration from Air, MGMT and Jagwar Ma among others and are set to play Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s tonight. Glasgow producer Wuh Oh and Edinburgh band TEEK provide support. Tickets £8

Super Hans’ Big Beat Manifesto @ Dundee Reading Rooms, Dundee, 25 May

After sell-out shows all across the UK, everyone’s favourite Peep Show character Super Hans is back in his van with his new crew ‘The Peace Posse’ bringing his Big Beat Manifesto to Dundee’s Reading Rooms for the first time. Big beats are the best after all. Tickets £15

Dirty Weekender’s Seaside Bash @ Ayr Town Hall, Ayr, 26 May

Fancy spending a day by the beach on Scotland’s west coast at the end of May? Want to watch some top bands while you’re there? Then look no further than Dirty Weekender’s Seaside Bash at Ayr Town Hall. Tom Clarke (formerly of The Enemy), Brown Bear, Ranzas and Luke La Volpe have already been confirmed to play and there’s more to be announced. Tickets £20

The Sugarhill Gang ft. Grandmaster Melle Mel & Scorpio (The Furious Five) @ The Classic Grand, Glasgow, 1 Jun

When you mention legends in the music industry you absolutely 100% have to mention The Sugarhill Gang, a pioneering hip-hop group founded by Sylvia Robinson in 1979, whose hits Rapper’s Delight and Apache still easily light up any dancefloor today. The gang tonight will feature rappers Scorpio and Grandmaster Melle Mel, the main songwriter for Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Tickets £19.50

Nightvision presents Green Velvet @ Secret Location, Edinburgh, 13 Jul

The team behind some of Edinburgh’s biggest club nights including the gargantuan Terminal V at Ingliston are back this July with another massive booking in the form of Chicagoan producer Green Velvet at an as-yet-unannounced location in Edinburgh. The house and techno producer has been on the scene since the early 90s and his absolute banger La La Land from 2001’s Whatever still gives us big chills. Tickets from £22.50

Electric Fields @ Drumlanrig Castle, 30 Aug-1 Sep

Electric Fields heads back to the beautiful surroundings of Drumlanrig Castle in the Scottish Borders this year to celebrate its fifth anniversary. Among the highlights this year are Young Fathers, Ghostpoet, Nightwave, Ezra Furman, and Out Lines. We’re also excited to catch hip-hop MC Lady Leshurr, Brooklyn dream-pop trio Sunflower Bean and afro-funk explosion Ibibio Sound Machine. U6s free, 6-12 yr olds from £20, 13-15 yr olds from £45, Adults from £115

Loopallu @ Ullapool Pier, Ullapool, 28 & 29 Sep

Loopallu, in case you haven’t figured it out for yourself, is Ullapool backwards, which is where this two-day event takes place. The festival, which has been running annually since 2005, has over the years welcomed the likes of Mumford & Sons, Franz Ferdinand, Echo & the Bunnymen and Paolo Nutini to the diminutive town in the north of Scotland. Although the 2018 line-up hasn’t yet been announced, tickets are already on sale. If you’re not fast you’re last. U5s free, 5-12 yr olds £15, 13+ £80
