Son of Dave @ King Tut's, 7 May

Article by Stephen Toman | 22 Apr 2009

Wearing a three-piece suit and sitting down, armed with only a shaker, a few harmonicas and an ancient Akai sampler, Son of Dave – or Dave Jr., as he is almost never called – creates a thumping, growling, squealing wall of sound that is hard to believe comes from the solitary figure on stage, let alone a former member of the Crash Test Dummies. Growls become bass loops; he stomps his feet, claps hands, bellows and yelps, body shaking with his music. A genuine one-man-band, then, situated between Mr Boom and the elaborate karaoke posing of the Kills, and an audio-visual treat for all.
