Seasick Steve @ The Music Hall, 23 Oct

Dodging a beer cup thrown from the T in the Park crowd, Seasick Steve barked in his deep southern drawl: “Anyone throws any more shit at me and I’m gonna come down there and pound his ass… unless it’s whiskey.” A roar of lubricated appreciation followed, but there was no doubting the straight talking American’s sincerity towards the revellers at this year’s Pet Sounds stage.

The outspoken song and dance man from Mississippi returns to Scottish shores this October, showcasing his distinctive style of foot-tapping blues while sharing stories of his past life as a down-and-out hobo. This tour coincides with the release of his third autobiographical album, I Started Out With Nothing and I Still Got Most Of It Left, sure to be another growler from the vocal depths.

Seasick Steve came to the attention of the UK when he played The Later Hootenanny with Jools Holland in 2006 and since then he’s forged a relentless global tour schedule. The dirty blues that his guitar/vocals emit in songs like Dog House Boogie were custom made for a live audience. [Rachel Loxton]
