Gigs in Edinburgh this week

WORK @ Wee Red Bar, 5 Apr
The Californian electro-post-punk duo – imagine a cross between Death From Above and Devo and you're part way there – play the Edinburgh College of Art bar. Support comes from Cynthia's Periscope, and 'ambient glo-fi' merchants Super Inuit, who we've just announced for our stage at Kelburn Garden Party this summer

Home$lice @ Leith Depot, 6 Apr
The much buzzed-about Glasgow five-piece bring their slacker-pop stylings to the Depot tonight, as part of a short tour ahead of the release of debut album Howdy.

Spinning Coin @ Leith Dockers Club, 6 Apr
Good Grief's run of fundraising gigs for youth charity The Rock Trust continues with jangly indie-pop outfit Spinning Coin, with support from Order of the Toad and Buffet Lunch.

The Violet Kind @ Sneaky Pete's, 7 Apr
The Glasgow alt-rock trio bring their bright chords and experimental rhythms to Sneaky's – check out their track Speakeasy, which we premiered on Valentine's Day, for a taste of what's in store.

Chrysta Bell @ Voodoo Rooms, 9 Apr
Chrysta Bell, who you may remember from the latest series of David Lynch's Twin Peaks in which she played FBI Agent Tamara Preston, brings her trippy pop to Voodoo Rooms tonight. You can also catch her at Glasgow's Oran Mor on 8 Apr.

Gig of the Week

Counterflows Festival @ Various Venues, Glasgow, 5-8 Apr
2018 sees the seventh edition of Counterflows Festival hit a dozen Glasgow spaces this April, from the CCA, Glad Cafe and The Art School to the more unconventional Fred Paton Centre, Queen’s Park Bowling Club and Garnethill Multicultural Community Centre. This year’s focus, as ever, is firmly on underground, experimental and international music. The 2018 programme includes performances from American contemporary composer Susie Ibarra, Tanzanian electronica courtesy of Sounds of Sisso, and Polish duo Żywizna who will make their UK debut at the festival.

Gigs in Glasgow this week

Carla J. Easton @ Nice N Sleazy, 4 Apr
Carla J. Easton's new album is a synth-led collection of songs produced with an all-Canadian band during her time with former Arcade Fire drummer Howard Bilerman in Montreal. Experience Easton's new sound at Sleazy's tonight.

Fat Goth @ The Hug & Pint, 4 Apr
After a decade of gnarly riffs, the Dundee noise merchants are calling it a day this month. They play The Hug & Pint tonight; they're at Sneaky Pete's in Edinburgh in two weeks' time (18 Apr), before their final show at Conroy's Basement in Dundee on 28 Apr.

Joana Serrat @ The Hug & Pint, 5 Apr
The Catalan songwriter brings together the threads of folk and Americana on her latest album Dripping Springs, the Texas Hill Country outside Austin. Expect a bit of Texan warmth to help counter the unseasonable chill when she plays The Hug & Pint this week.

Lissie @ Oran Mor, 6 Apr
Lissie's latest album Castles is a little moodier and more atmospheric than her past work, but it's also her poppiest record yet. Find out how it translates to the live arena at Oran Mor this week.

Ferocious Dog @ Saint Luke's, 6 Apr
The folk-punks hit Saint Luke's with their mix of celtic, reggae and punk influences, their gig doubling as a drop-off for items for Glasgow North East Foodbank.

Pinact @ Stereo, 7 Apr
A heady mix of fuzzed-out guitars, melodic riffs and crashing cymbals, Pinact's sound conjures up the ghosts of Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr and Nirvana. Watch them lay waste to Stereo this weekend, with support from WhyNo? and Savage Mansion.
