Gigs in Edinburgh this week

DB Hews, Olivia Lucia, Khalid Al Khajah @ Sneaky Pete's, 28 Mar
A trio of up-and-coming talents come together tonight at Sneaky's – Dublin blues/folk songwriter DB Hews; Olivia Lucia, who'll be backed by nu-soul band The Onethreeone; and Khalid Al Khajah, the Edinburgh-based Bahraini songwriter whose sparkling brand of electro-r'n'b on debut EP Open seriously impressed us in early 2017.

Book Group's 'Wheel Of Whattune!' @ Safari Lounge, 29 Mar
The fine folks in Book Group are lining up album number two, and they need your help. Specifically, they need you to head to Safari Lounge and listen to a roadtest of some of their new material, and give your feedback. "Laugh, boo, hurl abuse, cry at the sad bits, whatever," they say – if nothing else, they're letting you keep your options open.

Alex Lahey @ Mash House, 30 Mar
Expect singalong choruses, punk-pop dynamics and casually witty observations from Australian songwriter Alex Lahey when she hits the Mash House this week.

Randolph's Leap @ Sneaky Pete's, 30 Mar
The Glasgow indie-folk eight-piece squeeze themselves onto the Sneaky Pete's stage for what's sure to be a fun-packed start to the Easter weekend. Support comes in the form of a solo set from Kid Canaveral frontman David MacGregor, and the lo-fi folk pop of Moonsoup.

Jutland Songs @ Sneaky Pete's, 31 Mar
The Glasgow four-piece personify everything good about the phrase 'emo revival', combining big riffs and melodic breaks in a way that makes you wonder whether they have a time machine to take them straight back to the American Midwest in the late-90s. They're joined by Edinburgh's own Pilotcan and Fire in the Alps.

Terminal V @ Royal Highland Centre, 1 Apr
Kölsch, Bicep, Rødhåd, Amelie Lens and Peggy Gou are among the names set for Nightvision's latest all-dayer at Ingliston. Also on the bill are Glasgow duo Dixon Avenue Basement Jams – listen to Dan Lurinsky and Kenny Grieve's Guest Selector playlist of some of their favourite tracks here

Flux Velociraptor @ Henry's Cellar Bar, 1 Apr
Livingston's principal purveyors of mountainous riffs and earthshaking instrumental grooves, Flux Velociraptor tuck themselves into Henry's Cellar this Easter Sunday for a show alongside French experimentalist Guili Guili Gulag, the ambient psych of F.U.T.U.R.O.S.C.O.P.E. and the excellently named RegrettaGarbo featuring past members of jesus h. foxx and Meursault.

Big Thief @ La Belle Angele, 2 Apr
The Brooklyn four-piece are making something of a habit of shows in the capital – their biggest to date comes this week at La Belle Angele; expect a showcase of their Angel Olsen-esque atmospheric indie rock.

Gig of the Week

[L-Space by Brian Sweeney]

Last Night From Glasgow's Bigger Birthday Bash @ Stereo, 31 Mar
Happy Birthday to Last Night From Glasgow, the crowdfunded, not-for-profit record label responsible for recent releases from Annie Booth, BooHooHoo and TeenCanteen among a host of others. Help them celebrate at Stereo tonight with four of the label's signings: mobile phone musician Stephen Solo, "maximalist melodramatic funk-pop outfit" Sun Rose, the electronic dream-pop of L-Space, and Scottish indie legends Bis.

Gigs in Glasgow this week

George FitzGerald @ The Art School, 28 Mar
British-born, Berlin-based DJ/producer George FitzGerald is known for his unique techno/house works in the vein of Joy Orbison, Mount Kimbie and Pearson Sound. His new album, All That Must Be was released earlier this month, featuring collaborations with the likes of Bonobo and Lil Silva, and he’ll be playing tracks from it tonight with a live band. Support comes from the fantastic Scottish producer Makeness.

L.A. Witch @ Nice N' Sleazy, 28 Mar
The Californian punk trio return to Glasgow, with the ever-lovely Freakender bringing Sade Sanchez, Irita Pai and Ellie English to the perfectly suited Sleazy's for an evening of bluesy, fuzzy guitars.

MØ @ O2 ABC, 31 Mar
The Danish synth-pop provocateur and Major Lazer collaborator hits the ABC for what should be a raucous Saturday night. This show was rescheduled from October last year, so if you have a ticket lying in a drawer somewhere, now's the time to dig it out.

Maximum Pressure @ SWG3, 31 Mar
Nina Kraviz, Slam, Eats Everything, British Murder Boys, Optimo, DJ Stingray, Quail, IDA and more make up this mammoth Pressure Easter Sunday event, which runs from 5pm all the way through to 3am. During the day, Soma Records are running a free Soma School with masterclasses, seminars and discussions covering everything from production to promotion to publishing – get your tickets for that here.

Spinning Coin @ The Old Hairdressers, 1 Apr
Fresh from touring with their Canadian buddies Alvvays, the Glasgow indie outfit host a cracking Easter Sunday line-up. Spinning Coin are joined by the brooding folk of Heir of the Cursed, 'bass and drum duo' The Avocados, and the Order Of The Toad project of The Wharves' Gemma Fleet.

No Age @ Mono, 1 Apr
Expect an energetic mix of mosh pit-friendly hooks and experimental pop sensibilities from LA duo No Age, touring tracks from their latest album Snares Like a Haircut.

Sunflower Bean @ Stereo, 1 Apr
"Fleetwood Mac by way of The xx, The Submarines and The Cardigans" was our verdict on the second album from New York trio Sunflower Bean, tying together influences from across the decades into a fantastic whole. Find out how it all translates to the live setting tonight at Stereo.
