Gigs in Edinburgh this week

Fat Goth @ Sneaky Pete's, 18 Apr
After a decade of gnarly riffs, the Dundee noise merchants are calling it a day this month. They bid their Edinburgh farewell tonight at Sneaky's, before their final show at Conroy's Basement in Dundee on 28 Apr.

Courtney Marie Andrews @ Summerhall, 19 Apr
Fresh from releasing her latest album May Your Kindness Remain, Courtney Marie Andrews – originally from Phoenix, Arizona – brings her own brand of Americana, country and folk to Summerhall tonight. The singer-songwriter’s latest album was produced by Mark Howard who has previously worked with Emmylou Harris, Tom Waits and Bob Dylan so tonight is a must for folk and Americana fans alike.

A Fundraiser for Leith Theatre @ Thomas Morton Hall, 20 Apr
The Leith Theatre Trust are putting the FUN in fundraising tonight with a stellar party set to raise money for the incredible venue that is Leith Theatre. The line-up features Edinburgh party starters Book Group, accompanied by the lo-fi beauty of eagleowl and a duo of acoustic sets from Kid Canaveral and Broken Records’ Jamie Sutherland. The Leith Trust’s plea is simple: Choose Leith Theatre! Choose Live Music!

Wide Days @ Teviot, La Belle Angele & Mash House, 20 Apr
The annual showcase of new Scottish talent returns with a trio of free gigs. That's right, free gigs! It's an intriguing line-up this year, bookended by exciting and off-beat electronic sounds from Edwin Organ and Wuh Oh, and taking in jazz (Graham Costello's STRATA), indie (LUCIA, Rascalton), top-notch songwriting (Zoe Graham) and grungey alt-rock (CRYSTAL). Sign up for tickets here – those tickets, in case you missed it earlier, are free.

Her's @ Mash House, 21 Apr
Put an exclamation point on your Record Store Day adventures with a slice of jangle-pop courtesy of Liverpool duo Her's. Join Stephen Fitzpatrick, Audun Laading and their trusty drum machine for a set of melancholic-yet-summer pop gems; perfect after a full day of pints and record shopping.

Girls to the Front Fest @ Banshee Labyrinth, 21 Apr
A feminist punk and rock festival – need we say more? Well we will, because Girls to the Front is worth shouting about. An annual two-day event held in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, the festival aims to promote women within punk and rock music. Today’s line-up in Edinburgh includes music from Petrol Girls, Yur Mum and B-Trash and stalls from Debauchery Lee Designs and SPLITH design. The Aberdeen leg of the festival takes place at The Shack on 20 Apr.

Record Store Day 2018

Record Store Day @ venues across Scotland, 21 Apr
This Saturday, support your local indie record shop and grab as much vinyl as you can carry and afford. As has become traditional, RSD doubles up as a day of parties, in-stores and events, and we've put together an extensive guide to what's in store for Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee's record shops – read that here. Plus, if the forecast is to be believed, the weather should be basically fine all day – roll on a day of queueing, live music and 17-degree cloudiness!

Gigs in Glasgow this week

Otoboke Beaver @ CCA, 17 Apr
Cornerstones of the Japanese feminist punk scene, Kyoto quartet Otoboke Beaver take their name from a love hotel. And they don't suffer fools gladly, with tracks about dodgy boyfriends, terrible relationships and sexism.

Joan As Police Woman @ Old Fruitmarket, 17 Apr
Damned Devotion, the seventh album from Joan Wasser (formerly of Antony and the Johnsons), is a stripped-back, tightly-honed affair; watch Wasser play songs from the new record and across her back catalogue in Glasgow tonight.

The Homesick @ The Hug & Pint, 17 Apr
Hailing from Dokkum in the north of The Netherlands, The Homesick were one of the bands on everyone's lips at this year's Eurosonic. Catch the noisy, psychedelic pop trio tonight at Hug.

AKALA @ O2 ABC, 19 Apr
The acerbic, erudite and award-winning MC returns to Glasgow for a headline show at the ABC. Can't catch him tonight? He's just been announced for this year's Doune the Rabbit Hole festival – details of their 2018 line-up here.

Lucy Dacus @ Hug & Pint, 20 Apr
‘Am I a masochist resisting urges to punch you in the teeth / Call you a bitch and leave?’ are just some of the masterful and honest lyrics you can expect to hear at Lucy Dacus’ show tonight at The Hug & Pint. Historian, her second album on Matador, came out at the start of March and is an utter delight from start to finish and we reckon tonight’s show will be nothing short of magical.

Baby Shakes @ Mono, 21 Apr
The Freakender crew keep the RSD party going with a free show at Mono from New York rock'n'roll-punks Baby Shakes, with DJs following up until late.

Ought @ Stereo, 22 Apr
Room Inside the World – the third album from the Montreal outfit – is one of the highlights of 2018 so far, with Tim Darcy and co blending restraint and patience with their usual post-punk fervour. Find out how it translates to a live setting at Stereo; support from Leeds indie trio Drahla.

Zoë Bestel @ The Hug & Pint, 22 Apr
Bestel's new record Transience is the latest release on the trailblazing subscription record label Last Night From Glasgow; the album gets a launch party tonight at The Hug & Pint, with support from fellow LNFG artist Annie Booth.

Nada Surf @ Stereo, 23 Apr
The alt-rock favourites celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of their third album Let Go this month; their European tour checks in at Stereo tonight.
